Getting started with the RIS
Introduction: Research Portal vs. Research Information System
The research portal is a publicly accessible website containing all approved information that has been entered into the University of Hamburg's research information system (RIS). The RIS is the software behind the Research Portal, which requires access authorization (B-ID and password).
However, the RIS does not only serve as a source system for theResearch Portal. It is also available for queries that require information about research at the University of Hamburg, for example from the dean's offices and specialist libraries, the Executive Board, and the Presidential Administration.
Access to the RIS
All academic stuff with a contract at the University of Hamburg automatically has access to the RIS.
Individuals with no contract at the University of Hamburg or with non-academic contracts, such as those in administration, libraries, or secretariats, can request access to the FIS: Request RIS access
To log in to the RIS, you need your user ID (B-identifier) and the corresponding password. The link to the FIS is:
Training material
There is extensive training material available to help you get started with the RIS: Training material
Manuals are available in English and German, and we are gradually expanding our range of training videos on Lecture2Go channel with video tutorials on the RIS.
Support for the initial data import
Have you already collected publications and other information, e.g., from another database or an-other RIS? These can be imported into the RIS. Please contact us, we will be happy to assist you.
Use of the data entered in the RIS
The data entered and approved in the RIS is automatically displayed in the publicly accessible Research Portal. On your personal website, you can use the FIONA web content management system to integrate FIS-boxes so that your publication, project, and activity lists are automatically generated from the RIS. You can find a description on our FAQ page under “How can I use my data, e.g., on websites?”: FAQ page under “How can I use my data on websites, for example?”.
